In several recent interviews I’ve been asked about my favorite character.  That started me wondering why we like some characters over others.  From an author’s view, we create all the characters, yet some of them are more dear to us than others.  From a reader’s view, we fall in love with the characters as we learn about them.

While I’ve liked all the characters I’ve created, I did have one that gave me a hard time with his name and looks, had a villain I just couldn’t kill off, and of course fell in love with one hero instantly.

My favorite hero is Nicolai Valentine, the hero in SHADOWS OF THE SOUL. He’s a tormented, brooding guy who also happens to be a prince of Hell.  He’s half-fallen angel.   My heroine, Isabel Godfroie Heart is a strong woman who is fearless and loyal.  They made a great pair.

I envisioned Nicolai and Isabel right from the start–their looks, their names, their history.  I cried with them and I laughed with them.  These are two characters I don’t want to let go of.   They’ll be making spotlight appearances in the rest of the Paradisian Chronicles books as Nicolai has two brothers–Max and Sebastian.  Plus Isabel has some awesome friends–fellow Scholars who just can’t resist the Valentine brothers–Hell’s ultimate Bad Boys.
